Concert Joe: A New York Story is a story of
one man's obsession with music and how it affects his personal
life. Based on a legendary figure in the New York City music
scene, the story chronicles Concert Joe's attempt to get into
the Guinness Book of World Records for seeing the most concerts
in a one-year period.
The story takes us back to the early 70's where
young Joe breaks his first record: delivering the most papers
in a one year period. In Joe's father, we see the roots of Joe's
passion for music. A frustrated musician whose dreams of stardom
were dashed with the onset of his family, he is still famous
within his own neighborhood for giving annual concerts at the
street fair.
The story moves to present day New York where
Joe, after inadvertently seeing a special on The Guinness Book
of World Records, decides to go for the record. He feels this
could be his fifteen minutes of fame, his opportunity to be special,
and his opportunity for pop culture celebrity. He is aided in
his quest by his edgy, vibrant, concert going cronies.
His plans for the record take an
unexpected turn when he meets Angela and falls in love. He also
finds out there is another suitor to his throne, an Indian man
called Punjab. The stage is set for the concert countdown, with
none other than Donald Trump sponsoring the contest.
The story comes to a climax with
a manic concert marathon with Joe the eventual winner and an
immense, Blues Brothers-like jam at the end. v
